Randeep Hooda kept his promise to Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur. The actor performed her last rites on Monday. Dalbir died in Punjab on Sunday.
Randeep played the role of Sarbjit in the 2016 film, based on the biopic of the Indian national convicted of terrorism and spying in Pakistan. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played the role of Dalbir, who fought to get justice for her brother.
After seeing Randeep in the role of Sarbjit, Dalbir thought she found her brother in the actor. Thus, she had asked Randeep to perform her funeral proceedings. Randeep, who had agreed to do so, did.
When Randeep heard about Dalbir’s passing away, he left for her village. Dalbir passed away from a heart attack on Sunday, June 26, in Bhikhiwind near Amritsar, Punjab.
On arriving her village, Randeep participated in her funeral proceedings and even lit the fire. “I would like to take a promise from Randeep that when I die, he should definitely give me kandha (shoulder). My soul will receive peace that Sarabjit gave me kandha,” Dalbir had said during an event.
Sarbjit the movie was helmed by Omung Kumar. The film also starred Richa Chaddha and Darshan Kumaar in pivotal roles. This movie was critically acclaimed and earned well at the Box Office too. However, Sarbjit is also considered as one of the most underrated films in Bollywood. Randeep’s transformation into Sarbjit is lauded by fans till date. Sarabjit Singh died in Pakistan while he was under the suspicion of being a terrorist and spy sent to Pakistan. His named was linked to a bombing that killed at least 14 people. Sarabjit had died after prisoners attacked him in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore more than three years ago.
