Ranveer Singh-led sports drama 83 will soon have a simultaneous release on Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar.
While the former has acquired the Hindi rights, the latter will stream the film in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, according to a Mid-Day report.
83 is the second film to release on two different streaming platforms after Thalaivii, Kangana Ranaut's biopic on Jayalalitha.
Mid-Day writes that when 83 was first announced in 83, Star India was in talks to acquire the satellite rights.
A trade source told the outlet that with the OTT boom since 2020, Walt Disney Company India bought the broadcast rights. During the same period, the makers sold the Hindi language rights to Netflix.
The source adds that 83 will likely be available online on February 18 or 25. Two months after that, the film will make its way to Star Gold. The source also said that the producers wanted an eight-week run in cinemas before releasing the film digitally and on TV.
However, producer-director Kabir Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala and Vishnuvardhan Induri did not confirm this development with Mid-Day.
83, based on the Indian cricket team's historic World Cup win, was released in cinemas on December 24 after multiple delays due to the pandemic.
Actors Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, and R Badree make up the cast.
