Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan’s mystery thriller Rekhachithram, which has already become the first Malayalam blockbuster of 2025, is on track to cross Rs 50 Cr in worldwide box office collections in its second weekend. The movie, which grossed Rs 17.23 Cr in India and over Rs 40 Cr worldwide after its first week, further fetched Rs 0.88 Cr in the former market on Day 8, as per industry tracking website Sacnilk.

The movie’s overall box office collection at the end of Day 8 stands close to Rs 45 Cr, and this is expected to pick up on Friday as well as the following weekend.

Rekhachithram Day 8 box office update: Film records lowest single-day collection

Despite the positive buzz and record collection, Day 8 also saw the movie slowing down – with its India market gross falling below Rs 1.25 Cr for the first time. This was expected considering that Thursday was a weekend and also had Basil Joseph and Soubin Shahir’s Pravinkoodu Shappu releasing in theatres .

With the latter receiving mixed reviews and also belonging to the same genre as Rekhachithram, it remains to be seen which film the audience would choose to watch this weekend. While Pravinkoodu Shappu is more of a mystery thriller laced with dark comedy, Rekhachithram could appeal more to the family audience – who form the majority of the footfalls in the second week of a film’s theatrical run in Kerala.

Rekhachithram deleted scene released

Meanwhile, the makers of Rekhachithram had released a much-anticipated deleted scene from the movie. The reason for it being much-awaited was that the deleted scene featured a junior artiste, whom Asif had promised that he would release the sequence.

The movie, helmed by Jofin T Chacko, also has AI-generated sequences featuring Mammootty in its flashback portions that are set against the backdrop of Kaathodu Kaathoram’s shooting set.
