Raj Chakraborty Dharmajuddha was released on August 11 – two years and a few months after its original schedule. The film which features an ensemble cast with Swatilekha Sengupta, Ritwick Chakraborty, Subhashree Ganguly, Parno Mittra and Soham Chakraborty was slated to release in March 2020. However, with the emergence of Covid 19 and the subsequent nationwide lockdown, the film got pushed back a number of times. Finally, the film is running in theatres.

Talking about the significance of the film, one of the main actors Ritwick Chakraborty said that despite the delay, the relevance of the film is still intact. Dharmajuddha deals with raging communal violence. It shows a night in a riot-affected town in Bengal. The actor said, “ In normal circumstances, a film loses relevance within a few years. However, unfortunately, Dharmajuddho is still a very relevant film in the Indian context. That is due to the rise of communal conflicts and the inability of the administration to douse the disturbance. Sadly, such divisions between men vis-a-vis religion are still a reality in our country. As it seems, the conflict is here to stay for another few years.”

Ritwick plays Raghav – a very simple man who lives with his mother. His simple life gets disrupted due to a personal tragedy and politicians, who resort to communal conflict, brainwash him. He changes and turns into a radical individual, who is communally charged. He becomes a victim of the hate-politics.

Ritwick has earlier worked with Raj in Ler Chhakka and Parineeta. This is their third film together. Talking about his director, Ritwick said, “Raj tries to improve with each scene. From light to camera angle and everything – he makes it perfect. He gives space to an actor.”

Produced by Raj Chakraborty Films, Dharmajuddha is running in theatres.
