Rocketry sees huge Box Office jump on first Saturday: Why the film is a déjà vu of The Kashmir Files in more ways than one

R. Madhavan’s passion project Rocketry: The Nambi Effect has released in theatres on July 1, 2022. While a few were apprehensive about the film, this one has been widely received by every single person. Reminds you of something? The Kashmir Files?

Rocketry saw a huge jump on its first Saturday, something even the viewers might not have expected when Madhavan’s passion project was about to release. This was just like The Kashmir Files, which people were not sure about, till the film released and did wonders at the Box Office.

The movie minted Rs. 1.25 crores on day 2, which is 60% growth from day 1. The film earned Rs. 75 lakhs nett on the opening day due to limited screens. This is also something that The Kashmir Files suffered from. The rest, of course, is history.

Rocketry is also following the path. Just like The Kashmir Files, the demand for Rocketry is rising by the day. Thus, Madhavan is getting more screens for his film, even if it started off with limited screens.

The Kashmir Files gave superstars like Akshay Kumar a tough competition at the Box Office (Bachchhan Paandey failure). Whether Rocketry will do the same with other superstar films, remains to be seen.

While there are similarities in the Box Office pattern of both the films, the subject of these movies is also something that appears to have worked well with the viewers. Both The Kashmir Files and Rocketry: The Nambi Effect talk about the person (Nambi Narayanan) or people in general (Kashmiri Pandits) who have been wronged. Thus, even if the genre of the films are very different (The Kashmir Files is a drama film while Rocketry is more of a science-based movie), they have struck a chord with the viewers.

Nonetheless, it is a little too early to predict whether Rocketry will become one of the highest grossing films of 2022, let alone wonder if it can beat The Kashmir Files. However, seeing the trend of Rs. 4 crores gross in two days does prove that the movie is on the right track. Despite that, the Sunday collections for this film would decide its destiny and run at the Box Office. Can it get in the two-digit Box Office? If it does, then we might see another blockbuster at hand.
