Ajay Devgn’s Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, which is based on the British TV show Luther starring Idris Elba, is getting ready for its big release. The director of the show has revealed how they were able to make it unique.
Talking to Mid-Day, director Rajesh Mapuskar said, ““When I was offered the show, I knew I didn’t want to sign up for a cut-and-paste job. Everything, from the characters to the nature of the crime, had to be tailored to the local sub-culture,”.
He added that they used the same location such as Asiatic Library and Gateway of India, but explored them to find new angles to portray the city’s sinister sides.
The director also said that because he has not done an adaptation before, he wanted to learn how the makers of the show’s many adaptations treated it. He also adds that he had to forget Idris Elba and the original show and that Rudra: The Edge of Darkness is a new show with a new character.
The British show follows an obsessed and dedicated police officer who works at a special crime unit. He has paid the price for his dedication and work ethic, by being consumed by the dark cases he has to deal with.
The show has also produced a number of adaptations such as in the United States of America, Russia, South Korea and France. Ajay Devgn had earlier told DNA that the Indian adaptation is an “engaging and dark” take on the original show.
Apart from Devgn, the show also features Raashi Khanna, Esha Deol, Atul Kulkarni, Ashwini Kalsekar, Tarun Gahlot, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Satyadeep Misra. Rudra: The Edge of Darkness is set to release on Disney+ Hotstar on March 4.
