Ryan Gosling is set to reunite with director Derek Cianfrance for a horror film Wolfman backed by Universal Pictures. The two have previously worked on the Oscar winner Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines.
The story is among the newest iterations of the Wolfman, who first appeared in the 1941 film starring starring Lon Chaney Jr. The character was revived by Universal in 2010 with Benecio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins, writes Variety.
Wolfman was announced last year with Leigh Whannell at the helm, who exited due to scheduling issues. Cianfrance will also write the script. Variety notes that it is unclear how different or novel the new film's plot will be but it will follow the basic premise of a man getting attacked or bitten by a werewolf.
"Horror movies were my first love — my entry into what cinema was capable of narratively, psychologically and aesthetically. Coupled with the opportunity to collaborate with Ryan again, this is truly a dream come true," said Cianfranc in a statement.
Gosling will also produce along with Jason Blum (Blumhouse Pictures) and Ken Kao (Arcana).
Among his other upcoming projects is the role of Ken, Barbie's boyfriend in the Margot Robbie-Greta Gerwig film. The development, which came to light recently, has been received with mixed responses.
Gosling is also part of The Gray Man, a Netflix action thriller, directed by the Russo Brothers. The cast includes Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Dhanush, and Rege Jean Page.
