Ranbir Kapoor has recently been making headlines with his projects and Shamshera is one among them. The trailer of the period action drama was released last month, and fans got to see the actor in a very different avatar. Fans also learnt that he would be playing a dual role in the movie. Director Karan Malhotra has now stood by the decision to reveal this fact in the trailer.
While talking to Bollywood Hungama, Karan was asked about the decision to reveal this information about the movie and whether he felt like it gave out vital information about the movie.
“I feel the other way round. I believe that showing the last shot of the trailer adds to the excitement. It becomes a discussion point on whether you are accurately guessing the story or not,” Karan replied.
He added that it was an attraction to the end of the trailer and having said that, the movie has a lot more to offer than what was seen in the promos and the trailer.
The movie’s trailer gives a look into the late 1800’s world, where a dacoit and a British soldier face off. We also learn about the story of Shamshera, a warrior rebel who was working to take down British rule. Both the warrior and the dacoit are revealed to be played by Ranbir, with the former being the latter’s father.
While the trailer received mostly positive reactions, some felt that the decision to reveal that Ranbir is playing the double role of a father and son was not appropriate.
The movie, which also stars Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana and Ronit Roy in important roles, is set to hit theatres around the country on July 22.
