Vidya Balan’s Sherni has been the talk of the town ever since the release of its first poster. After sharing a short teaser, the makers have finally dropped the much-awaited trailer of the film today and announced that it will have a global premiere on June 18.
The trailer gives glimpses of the conflict between the forest department and the nearby village due to a man-eating tigress. While the forest department is trying to save the tigress from getting hunted, the villagers just want to get rid of the tigress. The video also us hints of issues like sexism that Vidya will be seen battling in the film.
Sharing her excitement about the film, Vidya said, “Ever since I first heard the story of Sherni, I found the world fascinating and so far removed from my own. Also, the character I play, Vidya is a woman of few words but many dimensions. The film deals with a sensitive topic that touches upon respect, mutual understanding, and co-existence, not just between man-animal, but between humans as well. It gives me immense joy to bring this unique character and story to the global audience through Amazon Prime Video and hope to engage them in unexpected ways.”
The director Amit Masurkar also talked about the film and said that Sherni is an intricately layered story, exploring the complex issues of conflict between humankind and animals. “Vidya Balan plays a mid-level forest officer who, despite obstacles and pressures, works with her team and local allies to preserve a balance in the environment. Working with her, the amazing ensemble cast and the uber-talented crew has been an incredible experience for me,” Amit added.
Featuring a talented set of actors including Sharat Saxena, Mukul Chadda, Vijay Raaz, Ila Arun, Brijendra Kala and Neeraj Kabi, Sherni will exclusively release on Amazon Prime Video on June 18.
