Suman Maintra’s Shimanto – a crime thriller that delves into the dark realities of Bengal’s border area – will release on September 2. On August 21, the trailer of the film was launched. Shimanto features an ensemble cast of Paayel Sarkar, Ranojoy Bishnu, Shaheb Bhattacherjee, Sudip Mukherjee, and several others.
The trailer shows a team from an intelligence bureau embarking on a rescue operation around Kolkata and the border areas of Bengal. Meanwhile, a pair of young boys are on a run. The trailer hints at illegal activities, extremist invasion and human trafficking as the areas that the team deals with. An elite team of the IB perpetually strives to detect and eliminate a nexus of criminals leading to a potentially lethal operation in Kolkata and along the India-Bangladesh border lines.
Paayel, who was present at the trailer launch event, said, “We have waited for a long time for the film. The trailer looks intriguing and I am sure people will like the film. Many incidents take place around us and often we get to know them from television. This film deals with some of those incidents. Some of those are connected to a bigger plot. This is not the kind of film you get to watch every day. I hope people will go to theatres to watch the film.”
Meanwhile, Ranojoy said that this film is intrinsically very raw. “We did not have any usual location. We shot through markets, stations and other public places. It was not easy at all. We also wore minimal makeup so that we look like ourselves. We did not want that hero-heroine kind of a look. We have put a lot of effort into it. I hope people will like it,” the actor said.
