Downton Abbey: A New Era release date pushed

Downton Abbey: A New Era’s release has been pushed, the production and distributions companies Focus Features, Universal Pictures and Carnival Films announced recently. The film was scheduled to release on March 18 but the release got delayed by a month in the UK and now the US release has also been postponed to late May. Similar to the original film, Downton Abbey: A New Era will follow a family of aristocrats and their enterprising servants as they deal with the changing times around them. 

Moon Knight screenwriter Jeremy Slater to pen Mortal Kombat sequel

Warner Bros and New Line Cinema are developing the second part of the film, based on the extremely popular video game, Mortal Kombat. Jeremy Slater, who came on board as the screenwriter of Disney Plus Marvel series Moon Knight, will be penning the screenplay of the spin-off. Details regarding the cast and crew are yet to be revealed. 

The Batman not an origin story, confirms filmmaker Matt reeves

The Batman director Matt Reeves has thwarted all notions of the upcoming film featuring an origin story of the famed Caped Crusader. In an interview with Esquire, Reeves stated, “We’ve seen it [an origin story] so many times. It’s been done too much. I knew we couldn’t do that.”

Reeves instead focused on the story of a young Bruce Wayne, trying to figure out his path to glory. The filmmaker took references from Batman: Year One by writer Frank Miller and artist David Mazzucchelli. 

Baahubali prequel series at Netflix reportedly being reevaluated

Baahubali: Before The Beginning, Netflix’s highly awaited prequel series to the tentpole Baahubaali franchise, is being reevaluated now, as per reports. 

The show is based on Anand Neelakantan’s novel The Rise of Sivagami which charts the titular heroine’s journey of becoming an all-powerful queen. It was first announced in 2018 and was to be directed by Prasthanam filmmaker Deva Katta and director Praveen Sattaru. However, reports suggest that Netflix wasn’t satisfied with the end result and is in talks to rope in other directors and replace cast members. 

Simon Pegg, Lil Rey Howery join Luck cast

Simon Pegg and Lil Rel Howery have joined Jane Fonda and Whoopi Goldberg in the voice cast of Skydance Animation’s first animated feature titled Luck. The adventure fantasy movie follows Sam, an unlucky person who gets one golden ticket to reverse her string of bad luck, and will premiere on Apple TV+ on August 5. 

Netflix greenlights political thriller The Diplomat from Grey’s Anatomy writer

Grey’s Anatomy writer-producer Debora Cahn has inked a multi-year overall deal with streaming giant Netflix, under which she will be penning and producing the political drama show The Diplomat. The series will have eight episodes of 50 minutes each and will center around a woman whose personal life takes a turbulent hit because of her demanding profession.
