Twitter falls under pressure from Indian officials to remove BBC doc critical of Modi

According to new reports, both Twitter and Youtube have taken down the BBC documentary about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role in the 2002 Gujarat riots. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat during the three-day period of inter-communal violence that took place in Gujarat. Indian officials contacted Big Tech companies to block the documentary from social media platforms for the reason of it being a “propaganda piece.” Kanchan Gupta, the senior adviser at the Indian government’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting labelled the film a “hostile propaganda and anti-India garbage, disguised as ‘documentary’.” Elon Musk’s self-identification as a “free-speech absolutist” is being put into question in light of their decision to remove the documentary.
