Oscars 2023 will live broadcast every Award category
Unlike the Oscars 2022, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided to return to the original run time of the telecast. Their attempt to shorten the telecast last year by pre-recording less-prominent awards such as the Best Original Score, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Documentary Short was highly criticised. Many Hollywood figures like Guillermo del Toro, Denis Villeneuve, and Steven Spielberg were against the Academy’s treatment of certain categories which were deemed as less important.
Filming delays for Academy Award nominee Paul Mescal’s film Gladiator 2
The Academy Award-winning film Gladiator, starring Russell Crowe, is getting a sequel after over two decades.The recently announced Academy Award nominee Paul Mescal will be the lead in Gladiator 2. He also plays the character of Stanley Kowalski in the acclaimed production of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire which is set to move to the Phoenix Theater in West End London for a limited six-week run. This new theatre run has caused a delay in the production of Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2.
Madonna’s biopic postponed at Universal Pictures
Biopics on musicians are all the rage in Hollywood and fans were looking forward to a new biopic on a musician, and it is none other than the Queen of Pop, Madonna. Ozark star Julia Garner was cast to play the role of Madonna but unfortunately, the film has been put on the back burner. The Material Girl singer is busy with her comeback in the music industry, and the pop legend just announced her new world tour which is set to take place in 40 cities. The tickets are already sold out in major cities and fans are ready for her stage comeback. Nevertheless, the idea of a biopic has not been entirely thrown out the window, as the singer confirmed that she will someday reveal her story to the world.
Adult Swim parts ways with Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland
Justin Roiland, the co-creator of the beloved Adult Swim show Rick and Morty has been charged with felony domestic abuse. In the wake of this news, Adult Swim has decided to part ways with Roiland. He voiced both of the titular characters of Rick and Morty in the hit adult animation comedy which had a massive new 70-episode order sanctioned in 2018. Fellow co-creator Dan Harmon will take over as the sole showrunner and Roiland’s voice roles will be recast.
DJ Nash, the creator of A Million Little Things reveals the reason for the end of the show
The family drama A Million Little Things which debuted back in 2018 is, unfortunately, ending after the fifth season. The upcoming season will start on a gloomy note with the characters coming together to mourn the loss of a loved one. Creator DJ Nash revealed there will be more than one character death. The show is based on Nash’s own relationships and personal experiences, and this is one of the major reasons for the abrupt end of the well-known show. He revealed he does not want his group of friends to become the focus of the weekly show.
Barney Stinson returns in the HIMYM spinoff series, How I Met Your Father
The second season of How I Met Your Father just premiered and a special guest made a sunrise cameo. It was none other than Neil Patrick Harris in his “legendary” role of Barney Stinson. In the final moments of the first episode titled “Cool and Chill,” Hillary Duff’s character Sophie crashes into a luxury SUV and out comes the How I Met Your Mother fan-favourite, Barney Stinson. Besides the arrival of Barney, the episode also sparked fans’ interest in Sophie’s new love interest as speculation continues about the identity of the father.
Twitter falls under pressure from Indian officials to remove BBC doc critical of Modi
According to new reports, both Twitter and Youtube have taken down the BBC documentary about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role in the 2002 Gujarat riots. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat during the three-day period of inter-communal violence that took place in Gujarat. Indian officials contacted Big Tech companies to block the documentary from social media platforms for the reason of it being a “propaganda piece.” Kanchan Gupta, the senior adviser at the Indian government’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting labelled the film a “hostile propaganda and anti-India garbage, disguised as ‘documentary’.” Elon Musk’s self-identification as a “free-speech absolutist” is being put into question in light of their decision to remove the documentary.
