After an impressive 2022 where Nikhil Siddhartha delivered to unique and yet contrasting films - Karthikeya 2 and 18 Pages - the Happy Days star is out to deliver a stylish action thriller with his upcoming release Spy. Iswarya Menon plays the female lead in the film that marks the directorial debut of well-known editor Garry BH. K Rajashekhar Reddy has written and produced the film.
Setting the expectations high after the teaser and the first single, the trailer of Spy was unveiled today. And Nikhil lives up to his promise of providing another fulfilling big-screen experience again. The story revolves around a spy’s attempt to decipher the conspiracy behind freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose’s mysterious death.
Besides a handful of twists, thrills and action, there’s a personal motive to the spy’s quest, who needs to find reasons behind his brother Subhash Vardhan’s death. The trailer begins with a voiceover that talks of the need to explore several gaps in history to understand the real picture. There are discussions about Qadir, a character who’s considered a national threat and Nikhil is handed over the responsibility to nab him.
Nikhil is on a globetrotting spree across a wide range of terrains and there’s enough meat in the glimpse to please the action junkies. The pulsating background score contributes to the tension. The icing on the cake is the special appearance of Rana Daggubati as a pilot who adds ‘freedom can’t be given..it can only be taken away.’
Sanya Thakur, Abhinav Gomatam, Makarand Deshpande and others essay crucial roles too. The film has been shot on a lavish scale and the superb glimpse is sure to help the promotional activity commence on a high. Sricharan Pakala and Vishal Chandrasekhar scored the music while the director Garry BH has also edited the thriller. Vamshi Patchipulusu, Mark David are the cinematographers. Spy releases in theatres on June 29.
