SS Rajamouli's next pan India epic film, Roudram Ranam Rudhiram (RRR) starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR is expected to be one of the most expensive films ever made in India. And while RRR is gearing up to release in theatres, the post theatrical satellite and streaming rights of the movie has been sold to Zee 5 at an exorbitant price of Rs. 325 crore. This makes it the world's largest post-release deal ever, making RRR the first movie to earn such a huge amount before its release in theatres.
The total pre-release business of the movie stands at around Rs.800 to 850 crore with theatrical, music, digital and satellite rights. Even with a big budget of over Rs. 350 crores, the pre-release income would earn the producers of RRR a profit of around Rs. 500 crores.
RRR is a period action drama directed by SS Rajamouli. Produced by D.V.V. Danayya under the banner of DVV Entertainment, the movie is touted to be a fictional account of freedom fighters Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaran Bheem from Andhra and Telangana, who fought against the British and the Nizam of Hyderabad. The story, set in the 1920s, narrates the journey of these freedom fighters away from their home and their fight for the country. Apart from Ram Charan and Jr.NTR, the movie also stars Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt and Olivia Morris in lead roles. The music for RRR is composed by M.M Keeravani.
The film was slated to release in theatres on January 8th 2021, but due to restrictions caused by the COVID pandemic, it is now scheduled to release on October 13, 2021.
