Swatantrya Veer Savarkar: Randeep Hooda’s directorial debut goes on floors; film to release on THIS date

Randeep Hooda’s next silver screen venture, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, is a special one for the actor. Based on the life of late Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, the upcoming film will also mark Hooda’s first stint in the director’s chair. The actor recently announced that his ‘special’ project is finally making headway, as the film recently went on floors.

Hooda took to his official social media handles to make the announcement, sharing a photograph of himself all smiles, along with producers Sandeep Singh and Anand Pandit, who are bankrolling the upcoming film. The post also included a clapboard, featuring the names of the makers of the film. Hooda captioned the post “This is a special moment. Lights, Camera HISTORY! Starting shoot for my next, @anandpandit and @officialsandipssingh's #SwatantryaVeerSavarkar”.

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar will be released in theatres on May 26, 2023, to mark the 140th birth anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

In addition to directing and starring in the titular role, Hooda has also penned the script of the film along with Utkarsh Naithani. Hooda takes on the mantle of directing the film from Mahesh Manjrekar, who had earlier been attached to direct. Sam Khan is also a producer on the project.

Hooda had paid tribute to the late freedom fighter on the latter’s birth anniversary this year. Sharing a poster of the upcoming film, featuring him as Savarkar, Hooda had wrote in the caption that he wanted to salute ‘one of the tallest unsung heroes of India’s struggle’. “I hope I can live up to the challenge of filling such big shoes of a true revolutionary and tell his real story which had been brushed under the carpet for so long..”, Hooda wrote.

Meanwhile, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is bankrolled under the banners of Anand Pandit Motion Pictures and Legend Studios.
