The Marvel Cinematic Universe is busy introducing new characters in Phase 4 and after the disbanding of the Avengers after Endgame. The dejected fans, however, were once again hopeful to have found a superhero group to root for when The Eternals was announced. The movie arrived in cinemas in November.

The Eternals received a mixed reception from fans and critics but still managed to gross over 400 million worldwide. There have also been talks about a spin-off series based on the characters introduced in the film. While the series will happen when it happens, the film is all set to arrive on OTT and ahead of this, filmmaker Chloe Zhao has revealed that the ending of the movie as we saw in cinemas was not the one that she had originally panned to go with.

The Eternals are a group of 10 super powerful beings created by Celestials to fight creatures called Deviants on Earth and have since been living among humans for thousands of years. the ending of the movie saw them protect the Earth from their creators who wanted the Earth destroyed.

The ending saw part of the team depart to find Thanos's brother and the others were summoned for judgment.

But it seems that the original ending was much bleaker than what we saw in theaters in a recent interview with Empire the director of The Eternals talked about the original ending.

â€œWe actually had another ending that is really bleak. Bleak. I didn’t hate it, because I’m used to films that are more melancholy. But I don’t think it went down well with audiences."

"It used to end with everybody back on the ship, minds erased and just going on to another planet, like The Twilight Zone," Chloe added.

The filmmaker added that since The Eternals is an MCU film, people expect a more hopeful ending and want to have something to look forward to. To Chloe changing the endings of her film is no new experience. The filmmaker in fact said that in none of the films she's made the ending has been the same one as originally planned in the script by her.

Explaining why that is she said that, endings and beginning are always found in the process of editing which according to her is one-third of the movie-making process.

Perhaps we can see the original ending and other deleted scenes from the movie when it releases on Disney+ in January.
