HBO Max’s new limited series, The Girl Before, seems to be every home owner’s worst nightmare. The trailer for the same was unveiled by the streaming giant on its official social media handles recently and it signals at an edge of the seat thriller with more to it than meets the eye.

A young woman, Jane, decides to move into an ultra modern and sophisticated house. However, her moving into the residence comes with a catch; she must be interviewed by the house’s architect first and is given a set of rules to follow after she moves in. But when she is mysteriously delivered flowers meant for its previous owner named Emma, Jane makes a dreadful discovery.

Emma had died in the house, and Jane takes it upon herself to investigate what happened to the previous resident. Her investigations lead her to make some disturbing revelations, and she decides to take action before she winds up in the same fate as her predecessor.

The limited series stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, known for her work in shows such as The Morning Show (2019) and Loki (2021), as Jane. The upcoming series also features David Oyelowo as the mysterious architect and Jessica Plummer as Emma. Ben Hardy, Rakhee Thakrar, Amanda Drew, and Ian Conningham also appear in supporting roles.

The four part series is based on the 2016 book of the same name written by JP Delaney. The author also serves as a writer on the series, co-writing the script along with Marissa Lestrade. Lisa Brühlman, who is known for her work on Killing Eve, has directed the upcoming series.

The Girl Before will premiere on HBO Max on February 10.
