The forthcoming Amazon original series The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power is causing quite a stir on social media. Every fan of the series has been anticipating the conflicts and the strange monsters in the show.

The original series will be intensely focused on creating this universe of Middle Earth and the creatures of the Second Age. Jamie Wilson, the leader of The Ring of Powers’ prosthetic department (who has worked extensively on the Star Trek and Mission Impossible franchises), and Lindsey Weber, the series' executive producer, have both contributed to the construction of these creatures for the forthcoming programme. The makers have released the first look of Orcs recently and he looks intense and intimidating.

In the statement, Weber added regarding the Orcs, “JD and Patrick — the showrunners — the very first page of their bible was about Orcs. They have a real passion for them, they love practical prosthetics and design, and they felt that they needed exploration given that this is the Second Age and thousands of years before the events of the Third Age. It was really important to them to treat them as their own culture and explore their world on its own two legs in its own right.”

According to Wilson, prosthetics have evolved significantly throughout the years. “You go back 20 years and we used a basically foam latex, which is like a porous-y kind of rubbery, spongy material with a smooth or whatever textured surface," he explained.

"It was great at the time.” But as times proceed, the creators noted that the series is a ‘close marriage between visual and practical effects’. Wilson went on to say that the visual effects team is also working on larger quantities of prosthetics and the team is working their magic. Orcs, according to him, are quite realistic and nearly solely.

He went on to say that they had chosen the effects from the beginning as they wanted to achieve a more realistic appearance, which is why they incorporated more actual prosthetics and reduced visual effects.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a programme created by JD Payne and Patrick McKay and directed by JA Bayona. It stars Morfydd Clark, Robert Aramayo, Markella Kavenagh and Benjamin Walker. From September 2, the programme will be available on Amazon Prime Video in various languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
