There is more disappointing news for movie fans as the makers of Nivin Pauly’s highly-anticipated period drama Thuramukham has confirmed that the movie has postponed its release.

The period drama joins a growing list of movies that have decided to push back its release across the country owing to the rising number of COVID-19 cases. The news was shared by Pauly on his social media.

Taking to Instagram, Pauly wrote, “Thuramukham is an attempt to address forgotten sacrifices and heroic struggles of a past generation, where a commitment to more significant causes was more important than the successes and failures of individuals.”

He added that current times also warrant actions for a larger cause and considering the surge in COVID-19 cases, the team has decided to postpone the theatrical release of the movie.

Directed by Rajeev Ravi, Thuramukham is one of the most-anticipated Malayalam movies that is gearing up for a release. The movie has had a few release dates set, all of which was pushed back due to the current situation.

The period drama is written by Gopan Chidambaran, and is based on the play of the same name by his father K. M. Chidambaran. The movie also stars Nimisha Sajayan, Poornima Indrajith, Indrajith Sukumaran, Arjun Ashokan, Sudev Nair, Manikandan R. Achari and Darshana Rajendran in supporting roles.

Set during the 40's and 50’s in Mattancherry harbour in Kochi, the movie will follow workers and their struggles and protest against the Chappa system of casual labour allocation and primitive work guarantee scheme of that time.
