The God of Mischief has reeled his fans right in with MCU’s Loki which is streaming now on Disney+ Hotstar. The series explores an alternate timeline where Loki must help the Time Variance Authority in finding the Tesseract and returning back to reality. The first episode of the series has been streaming on Disney+ Hotstar since June 9. In a chat with YouTube sensation Ashish Chanchlani, actor Tom Hiddleston spilled the beans about his character, the behind-the-scenes secrets from the show and even a special message for Indian fans.
When asked if viewers should prepare themselves for a big reveal in the upcoming episodes, the actor said, “The ambition of this series was so exciting for me because I have played this character for a long time. I was quite keen not to repeat what we had done in the past and let that live and take it further. It just gets bigger and better.”
The character of Loki has been through his own shares of ups and downs. He has turned into a caring brother after initially wreaking havoc for Thor. The events of the series are set in the world after the first Avengers film. Hiddleston revealed that going back to phase one Loki was almost like time travel for him. “It was interesting and was sort of like a time travel all by itself. Going back and putting on the costume I wore back in 2011. It was the same clothes and it's strange to go back to a fork in the road and Loki goes one way and that Loki does not know the things that the audience knows. So, it is interesting to play a character who has less information about his own life than the audience does. I found that interesting,” he shared.
Hiddleston is known to be quick-witted with the rest of the Avengers cast. He shares an excellent rapport with Chris Hemsworth, who plays his onscreen brother Thor. Answering Chanchlani’s question about which Avenger he would like to share more screen time with, the actor said: “ Gosh, there are so many Avengers. I think The Winter soldier maybe, with Sebastian Stan. Maybe somebody from Wakanda since Loki has never met anybody from there so that would be interesting. I think probably they would look down at him and think he is pathetic. So yeah! Some of the characters like Danai Gurira’s character, Dr. Strange. I feel it would be interesting for Loki and Spider Man to meet because then you have ‘TH’ and the other ‘TH’ and whatever conversation they have will be cool.”
Loki also stars Owen Wilson as an official of the Time Variance Authority who acts as Loki’s recruiter and then guide. "Owen is just fantastic. What I love about the character Mobius that he plays is that all the tricks that Loki uses to manipulate people do not work with Mobius. So Mobius has this curiosity and detachment because he kind of loves Loki but Loki does not want that. Owen himself is so playful, so smart, and so clever. He is such a brilliant actor, and we had a really good time,” commented Hiddleston when asked how he feels about introducing MCU to Wilson.
Knowing that MCU films and superheroes have a huge fan base in India, the Loki actor shared a special message for his Indian fans. “I want to tell all the fans in India, thank you so much for supporting me and these characters in the films. I really hope you like what we have done with Loki, and I think you are going to enjoy it,” stated the actor.
Loki features the titular character trying to establish his own identity and step out from his brother’s shadow. Directed by Kate Herron and written by Michael Waldron, new episodes of Loki will premiere every Wednesday on Disney+ Hotstar.
