Vikrant Rona teaser: Pandemic delays release, which was planned for screening in 4000 movie halls

Producer Manjunath Gowda was set to release the teaser of the Anup Bhandari directorial on January 3 and then have it play in theatres before or during the intermission of the major releases in January. But that plan had to be put on hold when the films were postponed.

If all goes well, in just over a month, Kiccha Sudeep’s magnum opus fantasy action-drama Vikrant Rona will hit theatres. Currently on course for a February 24 theatrical outing, the film is being converted to 3D for an enhanced viewing experience, which is being cited as one of the reasons the team decided to forego a direct-to-OTT outing.

Although Vikrant Rona is one of the most anticipated films of the year, very little of it is in the public domain, and fans have been eagerly awaiting news on a possible teaser/trailer release. In a recent media interaction, the film’s producer, Manjunath Gowda clarified that the teaser has been withheld because the team wants it to play in movie halls, as against releasing it online for consumption on small screens or mobile phones only.

Highlighting that Vikrant Rona’s quality of making has been a major discussion point, given that it has been compared to Hollywood standards, Manjunath said that showing people this quality would only be possible on a big screen. In fact, the team was set to release the teaser in early January and then take it to be screened along with the big-ticket films of the week, either at the start or intermission. Manjunath had apparently got 4,000 movie halls across the country on board for this plan. But then the pandemic began spiking again, forcing movie releases, and the Vikrant Rona teaser, to be postponed. The producer added that the team is now waiting for the right time and place and to release the teaser.

Vikrant Rona, directed by Anup Bhandari, has cinematography by William David and music by B Ajaneesh Loknath. The film stars Sudeep, Neetha Ashok, Nirup Bhandari, Ravishankar Gowda, Jacqueline Fernandez and Madhusudhan Rao, among others. Produced by Shalini Artss, in association with Invenio Films, Vikrant Rona will release in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.
