Kiran Raj, better known to audiences from Hindi TV shows like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Tu Aashiqui, and back home with Devathe and, more recently, Kannadathi, has been making inroads in Kannada cinema as well. The actor, who debuted on the big screen with March 22, has been doing the odd film every now and then and his next is Buddies, which is set to release in theatres on June 24.
Today, the film team launched a new song called Gelathiye, a romantic number featuring Kiran and Siri, which has been composed by Judah Sandhy and sung by Aishwarya Rangarajan and Varun Ramachandran, picturized at serene locations in Goa by choreographer Dhananjay. The song has been written by director Gurutej Shetty.
Directed by Gurutej Shetty, the film is a college caper that revolves around friendships. Kiran is paired with Ondu Shikariya Kathe fame Siri Prahlad in the film, which has been produced by Bharti Shetty. The story, says Gurutej, revolves around one person and his bunch of friends and has been made with all the elements one would expect in a commercial film, in an entertaining fashion. “The basic message is that love cannot be bought or forced out of someone. It has to evolve on its own. Here, we have explored how a rich man ‘gifts’ his son a bunch of friends and how their relationship evolves over time,” explains the filmmaker.
Gurutej adds that while producer Bharti Shetty showed interest in the script after the first narration itself, subsequently, after she came to Bengaluru, there were multiple meetings and the film did not go on floors until she was convinced about every single element that was to be shot. She needed to be clear about the intention behind every scene and shot. And once all was aligned, the film was launched.
