The first look of Amazon’s magnus opus fantasy web series features a diverse set of characters
We were bowled over by the period fantasy drama Game of Thrones that is still talked about. This time we will be given another out-of-the-world visual treat with the upcoming series Wheel of Time (WoT), that is adapted from the fifteen-volume series of books by Robert Jordan. This will be the second fantasy drama series to be distributed by Amazon along with the series adaptation of Lord of the Rings. Amazon’s head Jeff Bezos is on a roll with bringing over the literary world to his digital platform. Wheel Of Time stars Rosamund Pike as the protagonist of the fantasy series.
According to an EW report, Rafe Judkins, the showrunner of Wheel Of Time spoke about how different the upcoming fantasy series will be in comparison to other literary adaptations like Lord Of The Rings and Game Of Thrones. He said, “The world of WoT is essentially matriarchal. The largest kingdom in the novels' unnamed land is ruled by a queen who will pass her crown to her daughter rather than her son, and uneasy peace is maintained by the female-only mystic order known as the Aes Sedai.”
Rosamund Pike who portrays the prominent figure of Aes Sedai, Moiraine, said that her character is a guided personality in the world of WoT. She went on to explain, “The mysterious stranger who comes to town and changes their lives forever. They leave with her on a journey that will either save or destroy humanity.”
WoT also stars Josha Stradowski, Madeleine Madden, Alvaro Morte and Daniel Henney, among others in important roles.
The fifteen-volume adaptation of Robert Jordan’s best-selling series was published from 1990 to 2013. The first season of its TV adaptation has completed its filming with Season Two is on the go. Judkins recently revealed that eight seasons for the show have been loosely planned.
The first season of Wheel of Time is set to premiere on Prime Video in November 2021.
