Ajith in Valimai

Looks like fans of Ajith have to wait a little longer to watch their favourite star on screen. Valimai, the action thriller directed by H Vinoth, was slated for a theatrical release on January 13. In fact, Boney Kapoor had unveiled the posters of the film's Telugu and Hindi versions, too, yesterday.

But the rise in Omicron cases in the country, and especially in Tamil Nadu, we hear, might lead to shut down of theatres in the state. It is heard that with no options left, the makers are mulling over postponing the project's release to summer. An official announcement on the same is expected from the production house.

Vijay Deverakonda and Naga Chaitanya had released Valimai's Telugu posters. The film is releasing in the same title in Telugu and Hindi as well. With RRR becoming the first January release to get postponed, Vishal's Veerame Vaagai Soodum was planning to prepone its release to Pongal from January 26.

However, no official announcement was made from the actor's side about the movie which was wrapped only a couple of days ago. It has to be seen if the government will permit movie halls in Tamil Nadu to function at least with 50 per cent occupancy, without which the makers of Valimai will opt for another date.

The digital rights of Valimai has been bagged by Zee5 earlier. In fact, the movie is being produced by Zee Studios along with Boney Kapoor's Bay View Projects. Since yesterday, there has been speculation doing the rounds on social media with regard to the film having a direct-to-OTT release on Zee5.

But Ajith fans and other film lovers are hopeful of watching the big budget action movie on the big screen. The star's last outing was Nerkonda Paarvai (streaming on Zee5) which released in 2019.
