From the time filmmaker Zoya Akthar announced her next project, a live-action period musical based on the popular Archies comics, called The Archies, she had her fair share of supporters and nay-sayers. The latter, of course, not only took offence to the subject, which they felt would be ruined in an Indianized version, but more so to the cast, which includes Suhana Khan (Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter), Agastya Nanda (Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson) and Khushi Kapoor (Late Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s daughter) and sparked a nepotism debate. The Archies will also star Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Yuvraj Menda and Vedang Raina in significant roles and is expected to drop on streaming giant Netflix in 2023.

Here is a look at what some netizens had to say when the teaser and first look of The Archies dropped today, which made #nepotism trend yet again.

“It should be "THE MULTIVERSE OF NEPOTISM" A film by Zoya Akhtar. #Nepotism,” wrote one, to which another responded, “Justice League of #Nepotism. Will give this a pass for sure. 🙏Dear

@NetflixIndia , why?”. A third wrote, “And then they complain why @netflix is failing in India. 😹What is Indian in this? #Nepotism #BoycottBollywood #isupportSushantSinghRajput Agastya Nanda: Amitabh Bachchan Daughter's Son. Khushi Kapoor: Boney Kapoor Daughter. Suhana Khan Shahrukh Khan's Daughter.”

Of course, there were some who pointed out that nepotism was not limited to Bollywood and is a malaise in all film industries across the country. “So I read a tweet which said Bollywood is lagging behind Tollywood coz of #nepotism. Just a reminder that Ram Charan, Jr. NTR, Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun and many others are a product of nepotism as well. It's always about the content. Directors and writers should be better,” wrote a user. Others said that it would not be long before the kids of celebrated actors (Rajkummar Rao, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, etc.) who did not have a filmi background, will get into the industry and spark the debate all over again.
