Manisha Koirala started her acting career with the Nepalese film Pheri Bhetaula (1989) while still in school.

She went on to star in the Hindi hit film Saudagar in 1991 and established herself as an actor with the patriotic romantic drama 1942: A Love Story (1994) and the Tamil-language film Bombay in 1995.

Post-2003, Koirala began to work with independent filmmakers and has most recently worked in Rajkumar Hiranis Sanju.
