Story:
Gujarati actor Ojas Rawal has begun a chat show for Oho Gujarati where he interviews celebrities every week. The first celeb to join the show was RJ-turned-actress Devaki.
Review:
Har Ghadi Mauj released an approximately 45-minute episode for its first season. Considering the title, this episode was expected to be fun. However, Har Ghadi Mauj is far from fun or being Gujarat's Koffee With Karan. Barring a few moments, the show barely manages to keep you engaged.
Ojas Rawal introduces himself on the show in a rather humble manner. While he looked smart in semi-formals, the actor could not hold up the aura soon after RJ Devaki walked into the show looking simple yet elegant. Ojas welcomed her by calling her 'someone who has introduced everyone' (talking about her RJ career).
While Devaki appeared confident and fun-loving throughout the episode, Ojas seemed intimidated throughout it all. The actress might have hinted at it when she said on the show, "Anybody who's assertive comes across as intimidating." After all, Ojas would try to come out of his shell and then appear to take Devaki's affirmation on the statements he made.
The RJ-turned-actress spoke about 'without a gun' tag that has been attached to her name. She said the tag was because of her sharp mind. The actress further mentioned that it also comes because of the kind of sarcasm in Kathiawadi origin. This got Ojas nostalgic. However, the show is about fun.
Thus, it is safe to say that the episode does not have 'Har Ghadi Mauj' in the first nine minutes. It then takes a good turn, only to last for a few minutes.
Talking about guilty pleasure, Devaki gave an expected but fun answer about politicians. However, soon after, Devaki recalled how she was shunned in school and thanked Bipasha Basu and Sushmita Sen, as she was finally accepted as a 'normal' human being.
The show also faces some technical issues. It forces you to hear the conversation with sharper ears. Almost every time that Devaki and Ojas converse, the mic's volume drops to a considerable level. The two might as well be whispering. The show then continues with various boring moments and very few laughs.
Har Ghadi Mauj also brought in the concept of Bigg Boss' Jallad in the middle of a game. Ojas brings immense seriousness to what was supposed to be a fun show. The segment becomes a little fun but not as much as it could be.
The real fun (for the two, not for the viewers) comes in the last segment. The guests are asked to taste and guess the unique food kept on the table. Before signing off, Devaki and Ojas fed each other the sweet and spicy food, thus leaving the show on a warm and a little fun note. However, the fun was expected throughout the show since the title itself suggests 'Har Ghadi Mauj' (Fun every moment).
Verdict:
Har Ghadi Mauj season 1 episode 1 starts on a boring note. Ojas is not completely able to keep up with the guest RJ Devaki, which makes it a weird watch. All the Gujarati foodies, skip to the last segment and see the fun with the food they have brought in because everything else on the show is simply mediocre.
