Lionel Messi, in addition to his play on the field, has been a dominant force on social media. Messi posted a touching message on Instagram shortly after Argentina won the World Cup, and it rapidly shot to the top of the social media platform's list of postings from athletes.

As of Tuesday, it had received 68 million likes, making it the most-liked Instagram post ever. The Instagram post even went on to beat the previous record for the most liked image, which featured an unbroken egg. It surpassed the "World Record Egg", which has recorded 56.2 million likes to date.

According to reports, Chris Godfrey's Instagram account with the handle "world record egg" shared a photo of an egg in January 2019. It had received 56.3 million likes, but Messi's pictures of himself and his colleagues after Argentina's victory have broken the previous record.

Earlier, the picture of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in a frame, engrossed in a game of chess, used in an advertisement for the clothing company Louis Vuitton, was inching closer to breaking the record of the viral egg. But Messi on Monday had surpassed the picture of the two footballers as well.

Talking about Messi, he and his teammates were forced to leave the open-top bus and instead soar above the city in helicopters because the crowd swarmed the team's intended parade path in Buenos Aires on Tuesday to celebrate Argentina's FIFA World Cup victory.

Since Argentina defeated France to win their third World Cup title and first in 36 years, the football-obsessed nation has been overcome with joyous celebrations. At least 4 million people were on the streets of the bus' route wearing sky-blue and white as far as the eye could see.
