But the confident Indian women's hockey team won the shootout 2-1 to book their spot in the final of the FIH Nations Cup.
Ireland's Carroll Naomi (14’) had put Ireland ahead, but Udita (44’) equalised for India. After being on level 1-1 at the final hooter, India won the shootout 2-1.
The win over Ireland has kept India's hopes of getting promoted to the FIH Pro League for the 2023-24 season alive. The winner of the inaugural Women's FIH Nations Cup will be promoted to the Pro League next year.
India, the world No. 8 in the latest hockey rankings, will face home team Spain, who beat Japan in the other semis, in the final.
