On Thursday, the second T20I of the three-match series between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Pune. India overcame Sri Lanka in the opening match by a narrow score of two runs.
While the Indian batters were playing an aggressive game, the loss of wickets saw India lag behind in runs. The Men in Blue lost five wickets by the end of the 15th over and scored only 101 runs. But Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel's partnership of 68 runs helped India to score 162 runs.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, just before the powerplay was over went on to lose two wickets. By the end of the 11th over, half of the team had returned to the pavilion. The lower middle order, however, with the likes of Chamika Karunaratne, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Dasun Shanka, saved the sinking ship.
In the last over, Sri Lanka needed 13 runs to win, and Karunaratne was able to reduce the necessary runs to only five runs by hitting a six on the third delivery. Axar Patel, who bowled the final three deliveries, only allowed two runs to be scored, bringing the team home.
Injuries: Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing series due to a knee injury. The selection committee named Jitesh Sharma as replacement.
Arshdeep missed out from the lineup in the 1st game as he had not recovered fully from his illness. However, it looks like the young left-arm pacer from Punjab will be available for selection for the 2nd T20I according to a report by Cricbuzz.
