What a game and what a final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 it has been. With majority wanting to see Lionel Messi lift the trophy, the man surely did not disappoint.

Surely to be regarded as one of the best World Cup finals in history, if not the greatest, at the Lusail Stadium, many took to social media to express their feelings about the game.

Among the sea of fans was Shah Rukh Khan, who penned a heartfelt note for the football player. On Twitter, the "King of Bollywood" wrote, "We are living in the time of one of the best World Cup Finals ever. I remember watching WC with my mom on a small tv….now the same excitement with my kids!! And thank u #Messi for making us all believe in talent, hard work & dreams!!"

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar also wrote a beautiful note for the player and his team. "Many congratulations to Argentina on doing this for Messi! Wonderful comeback from the way they started the campaign," he wrote with pictures from the game.

He added, "Special mention to Martinez for the spectacular save towards the end of extra time. That was a clear indication to me that Argentina would clinch this".

Bollywood actor Ranveer Sing, who was present in Qatar for the World Cup, wrote, "It had to be Him. #Messi". He also said, "What have I just witnessed ?!?! Historic. Iconic. Pure magic. #FIFAWorldCup".

Talking about the clash, a hat trick by Kylian Mbappe and a goal in the penalty shootout could not help France win the final game.

The first half saw Messi and Angel di Maria give Argentina a 2-0 lead, however, two quick strikes from Mbappe saw France pull themselves level 2-2.

For the majority of the game, France had a lifeless appearance, but late in the second half, they regained their spark. In the final minute of regulation time, the scores were still 2-2.

The extra-time saw Messi score in the 109 minute, but Mbappe struck in the second half of the extra time to make it 3-3 for France. It was in the penalties that Argentina made sure they win the game.
