Memento, a 2011 movie, is directed by Christopher Nolan. It is a psychological thriller movie based on the 2001 story “Memento Mori” by Jonathan Nolan. The movie stars Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby and Joe Pantoliano as John Edward "Teddy" Gammell. The movie starts with a polaroid photograph of a deadman, then goes back in a black and white flashback, where Leonard Shelby, a former insurance investigator, is unable to store recent memories because of his anterograde amnesia. Leonard investigates the attacker who raped and strangled his wife and attacked him, which resulted in amnesia. Leonard believes the attacker's name to be “John G” or “James G” and comes across Teddy, whose full name is John Edward Gammel, and shoots him. However, the ending surprises the audience with twists and unpredictable past revelations. This movie was not only appreciated for its storyline but also for its realistic and accurate depictions of anterograde amnesia, which garnered it the honor by the US Library of Congress as "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."
