What makes a film thrilling? A kickass story, suspenseful moments, well, yes, and if there's an action that becomes the talk of the town, it's icing on the cake. The action movie has it all: explosions, drama, hand-to-hand battles, as well as romance. Really, there isn't anything that brings moviegoers to the cinema quite like a classic blockbuster. Action movie enthusiasm definitely returned in 2022, and things only seem to be getting better.

This year, action films were not just limited to superhero flicks, buddy comedies, and video game adaptations. It was much more than that, by giving a badass move to storytelling with heroes doing unbelievable stunts that you believe in and root for from start to finish.

Check out the best action films of 2022 below, not in any particular order:

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

The superhero movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the follow-up to Black Panther (2018) and the 30th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Letitia Wright plays Shuri/Black Panther in the movie, which is directed by Ryan Coogler and co-written by Joe Robert Cole. Other actors include Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Martin Freeman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Angela Bassett. In the movie, after King T'Challa dies, the people in charge of Wakanda try to keep their country safe.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which takes place in Wakanda for the first time since Chadwick Boseman's passing, serves both to advance the Marvel series and to honour the late actor's legacy. One of the MCU's top villains to date is Namor, the undersea king of Tenoch Huerta.

Bullet Train

Brad Pitt plays an assassin in the action comedy Bullet Train who must fight other assassins while travelling on a bullet train. Brad Pitt is the star of the movie, which is directed by David Leitch from a screenplay by Zak Olkewicz and produced by Antoine Fuqua, who came up with the idea for the movie in the first place. It is based on Ktar Isaka's 2010 novel Maria Beetle, which was translated by Sam Malissa. Maria Beetle is the second book in Isaka's Hitman trilogy; the first book was already adapted as the 2015 Japanese film Grasshopper. Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Bad Bunny, and Sandra Bullock are among the ensemble supporting players in the movie.

Bullet Train, directed by David Leitch of Deadpool 2, is a fast-moving train loaded with dangerous assassins who are searching for the items in a certain briefcase.

KGF: Chapter 2

K.G.F.: Chapter 2 is a historical action movie that was written and directed by Prashanth Neel, and produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the Hombale Films banner. It is the second half in a two-part series and a follow-up to the 2018 movie K.G.F. Chapter 1. Along with Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty, Prakash Raj, Archana Jois, Vasishta N. Simha, Achyuth Kumar, Rao Ramesh, Easwari Rao, Malavika Avinash, B. Suresha, and T.S. Nagabharana, the film also stars Rao Ramesh, Easwari Rao, It centres on the assassin Rocky, who, after rising to power in the Kolar Gold Fields, must maintain his dominance over rivals and authorities while simultaneously confronting his past.

Rocky's dialogue baazi and guns blazing are what make the film entertaining at its best.

RRR

RRR is an enthralling action drama that was co-written by V. Vijayendra Prasad and S. S. Rajamouli. D. V. V. Danayya of DVV Entertainment produced it. N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris are among the actors who appear in the movie. It revolves around the imaginary friendship between Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), two real-life Indian rebels who fought the British Raj. The story, which takes place in the 1920s, focuses on the unrecorded period of their lives when both revolutionaries chose to live quiet lives before waging war for their nation.

Two actual revolutionaries and their struggle against British control are the subject of RRR. It is the most costly Indian movie to date, with a $72 million budget. It features tiger fights, incredible motorbike stunts, and a dramatically romanticised version of history. You can never get enough of the over-the-top action sequences featuring both Jr. NTR and Ram.

Thallumaala

The action movie Thallumaala was produced by Ashiq Usman and directed by Khalid Rahman. Muhsin Parari and Ashraf Hamza are the authors. Shine Tom Chacko, Kalyani Priyadarshan, and Tovino Thomas all appear in the movie. Waseem (Tovino Thomas) is impressionable and prone to picking fights. But if he falls in love with a famous vlogger (Kalyani Priyadarshan), the blows from his fists might be fatal.

The incredible visual effects and storytelling enhance the action sequences, keeping you glued to the screen throughout. Like Kalyani's character munches on popcorn, the whole of Thallumaala is all about these worthy moments.

The Gray Man

The Gray Man is an action-thriller movie that Anthony and Joe Russo directed. Its screenplay was co-written by Joe Russo, Christopher Markus, and Stephen McFeely, and it was based on Mark Greaney's 2009 novel of the same name. In addition to Billy Bob Thornton and Alfre Woodard, the movie also stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Regé-Jean Page, Wagner Moura, Julia Butters, Dhanush, and Jessica Henwick. It is the first movie of a series based on John Greaney's Gray Man novels, and it was produced by the Russo brothers' firm, AGBO. The main character of the story is CIA operative "Sierra Six," who, after learning dishonest information about his superior, is on the run from sociopathic ex-CIA agent and mercenary Lloyd Hansen.

The Gray Man, a spy/action movie starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans and directed by the Russo brothers, received a ton of funding from Netflix, and it appears to have paid off. Their standoff takes them across the globe, and Gosling's Fast & Furious-style bravery makes this the closest thing to a superhero character the actor has ever played.

The Batman

The Batman is a reboot of the Batman film series, produced by DC Films, 6th & Idaho, and Dylan Clark Productions, and released by Warner Bros. Matt Reeves, who co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Craig and directed the movie. Along with Colin Farrell, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, and Andy Serkis, it features Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Batman, who has been battling crime in the city for two years, is on the lookout for The Riddler (Dano), a serial killer who preys on Gotham City's elite.

In Matt Reeves' gritty, punishing The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as a teenage, emo Bruce Wayne just learning to navigate the dangerous streets of Gotham, the DC hero is back and grittier than ever. During the course of the movie's nearly three-hour running duration, Batman revs his Batmobile, hangs out with Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz), and takes out villains like the Riddler (Paul Dano) and the Penguin (Colin Farrell).

Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick is an action-drama movie with a narrative by Peter Craig and Justin Marks that was written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie. It was directed by Joseph Kosinski. The movie is a follow-up to the Top Gun movie from 1986. The naval aviator Maverick is once again played by Tom Cruise in the lead role. It was based on the Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr.-created characters from the first movie. Val Kilmer, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Ed Harris are also featured in the movie. In the movie, Maverick talks about his past while getting a group of new Top Gun graduates ready for a dangerous mission. One of the graduates is the son of his best friend who died.

Tom Cruise's star power is so strong that Top Gun: Maverick not only saved the summer movie business but is also being considered for an Academy Award. Miles Teller plays the son of Tom Cruise's late co-pilot, Goose, in Maverick, which also pays a fitting tribute to what might have been Val Kilmer's last starring appearance.

Vikram

Along with Rathna Kumar, Lokesh Kanagaraj co-wrote the storyline for the action-thriller movie Vikram. Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil also appear in it, as do Narain, Kalidas Jayaram, and Chemban Vinod Jose in supporting roles. It is the second entry in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe after Kaithi and serves as a spiritual successor to the 1986 movie of the same name (2019).

Who will forget Kamal Haasan letting his guard down and getting all out in action mode with high emotions and kickass moves? Supporting him were incredible performances by Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil.

Yashoda

The action-thriller movie Yashoda was written and directed by Hari Harish. Samantha plays the title role alongside Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Murali Sharma, and Unni Mukundan. Due to her circumstances, Yashoda, an innocent woman, consents to be a surrogate mother. She then discovers herself imprisoned in an uncertain environment. How can she fight her way out of a sea of politicians, physicians, and influential people?

Seeing Samantha in action and performing it effortlessly with an author-backed role high on emotions makes Yashoda worth watching.
