As we enter the award season officially today with the Golden Globes kickstarting the proceedings, the world has been hooked to the screens to find out who wins in each category. 2023 was a year of great movies and an even greater box office haul and we saw some legendary filmmakers and some on their way to becoming iconic. The fact that a Barbie and an Oppenheimer could be released on the same day, and that both can have an audience that made them over a billion dollars strong each is proof that varied movies could coexist.

So, at the award night, we saw supreme talent in Hollywood climb the dais and accept the accolades. But there were also shocking winners as we saw Barbie underperforming, making it the most shocking twist of the night. Oppenheimer reigned supreme, but there were also some more surprising snubs that have not gone down well with the netizens.

Below, we list down 5 major shocking snubs that will haunt us for the next few weeks at least. Read on and join us in the shock ride of the week, that too on a Monday.

Barbie Lost Best Comedy To Poor Things

Let’s be very honest when we say this, none of the estimated lists on the internet even came close to mentioning Poor Things as the winner. Everyone thought no one could beat Barbie if it was on the list. But hey, the jury doesn’t think like us and they chose Emma Stone’s Poor Things over Margot Robbie’s Barbie and this has not really gone down well with the netizens who are still not in the mood to process this.

Barbie And Oppenheimer Both Defeated by Anatomy Of A Fall

If you thought Barbie losing to Poor Things was shocking, the jury was in the mood to catch you off guard with some other categories as well. Who could have possibly thought this season that Anatomy Of A Fall would defeat Barbie and Oppenheimer in the same category? Anatomy Of A Fall won the award for Best Screenplay against Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s Barbie. Process this now.

Taylor Swift Went Home Without A Trophy

Swifties are not going to take this lightly. Taylor Swift was invited to the gala night and sent back home without a trophy. Nominated for the new category Cinematic And Box Office Achievements with many others and the trophy was given to Barbie. While it felt like a consolation prize to the Margot Robbie-starrer, the cultural significance and impact of Taylor Swift were strong too. In an ideal world where Barbie would have won another award, this category belonged to Taylor as she gave us Eras Tour, which turned out to be the most successful documentary movie ever.

Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse Lost

While the one that won against Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse was the living legend Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy And The Heron and there is no way one can think of any other movie when he is in the nominations. But the fact that Across The Spider-Verse was a massive hit and the only superhero fireball this year, it is a snub if you look at it.

Meryl Streep Beaten By Elizabeth Debicki

Elizabeth Debicki must have won hearts as Princess Diana in The Crown, but the biggest flaunting aspect of her career for the next many years is going to be that she won over Meryl Streep. Read that again. Streep, the legendary actor, was also nominated in the Supporting Actor list but it turns out Elizabeth stood victorious.
