Actor Bharath, popular among Telugu audiences for his appearances in Boys, Premisthe, Yuvasena and Mahesh Babu’s Spyder, is back in a straight Telugu film after many years. His next release is Hunt, directed by Mahesh, headlined by Sudheer Babu, a cop drama that also stars Srikanth, Chitra Shukla and others in key roles. Ahead of Hunt’s release on January 26, Bharath spoke to the media today.

Responding to what kept him away from Telugu cinema all these years, he says, “My primary focus is Tamil cinema and I won’t deny that. I have a handful of films there. When Mahesh approached me with this script, I took up a film after many years. Sudheer Babu is a good friend and we played cricket regularly in private leagues; the same goes with Srikanth too. All worked out well for Hunt.”

Hunt revolves around three police officers played by Sudheer Babu, Srikanth and Bharath. The latter is cast in the role of Aryan Dev. “Mahesh liked my performance in the Tamil film Kaalidas, in which I played a cop. We haven’t altered the look here too. Hunt is a good mix of crime, action, thrills and emotions. I am confident this film will boost my prospects in the Telugu industry.”

Bharath says he’s content with his career in an industry where fortunes change drastically every Friday. “Regardless of hits or flops, I’m trying to be consistent and enjoy my process. Enjoying my work is very important for me. Acting doesn’t change anywhere irrespective of the industry. The scope of the Telugu market has increased in the recent years and now, there’s a great exchange of talent and stories among various industries.”

Hunt’s story will primarily unfold in Hyderabad while select portions were shot in Paris as well. The action sequences are weaved into the story quite organically, Bharath mentions. “The film has been shot on a lavish scale and several Hollywood choreographers have worked on the action sequences too. Bhavya Creations left no stone unturned with the budget and the quality.”

While there are no plans for a sequel to Hunt yet, the producers may take a call on it based on the audience’s response, Bharath shares. Expressing his wish to do a full-fledged comedy soon, the actor states, “Everyone is only approaching me for actioners, emotional films or romance. I want to challenge myself in a comedy. I have a wish to do a spy thriller some time soon.”

The actor shares he’s a good fan of filmmakers SS Rajamouli, Trivikram and Sukumar and follows their work keenly. “I want to act along with Allu Arjun someday. I have observed his evolution of as an actor since his Gangothri days. I was to do the remake of Gangothri at a point of time too. I really like him as a performer,” he signs off.
