Exclusive! Aar Ya Paar director Sidharth Sengupta: OTT has increased the bar for filmmakers

Aar Ya Paar, an upcoming fast-paced action drama on Disney+ Hotstar, released its trailer a few days ago and it looks intriguing. Aditya Rawal, Patralekha, Sumeet Vyas, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya all play major roles in the Sidharth Sengupta-directed film.

In a special conversation with OTTplay, Sidharth Sengupta talked about the thought process behind the use of rows and arrows instead of guns, which is not very common unless and until it's a mythological film, he said, "Bows and arrows are difficult when they are facing guns and bombs and that was the whole idea. The whole idea is about a tribal trying to make it in a society which is modern, the conflict is bigger and that's the whole idea about the show. It is about modernity versus absolute peace jungle."

When asked about OTT platforms taking over the charm of cinema halls, the director said, "You have to have a good enough reason to call the audience to the theatre. It's pretty challengeing as OTT holds a huge number of choice in terms of. When it comes to watching a film in the cinema hall, it increases the bar for the filmmakers and hence the story has to be compelling to hold the audience together so they can pull the audience to the theatre. The film need to do something really path breaking otherwise people won't accept it."

Talking about Aar Ya Paar, the show follows the journey of Sarju, played by Aditya Rawal, a tribal man with exceptional archery skills. He is battling for his tribe's survival against the modern world and its crooked political and financial system, which launches him into the realm of organised crime and transforms him into a deadly mercenary killer. Aar Ya Paar is set to stream on Disney+ Hotstar from December 30.
