Anjan Dutt’s tribute to his mentor Mrinal Sen, Chaalchitra Ekhon, has swept the Bengali audience off their feet. Ever since its release, the film has garnered love from viewers and critics alike. The film that features Anjan and Kunal Sen (a character based on Mrinal Sen) and Sawon Chakraborty (Ranjan Dutt – based on Anjan) is a tribute to the legendary director’s birth centenary. The film was screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival.

While talking to OTTplay, Anjan said that he expected people to like the film. “I knew people would like it. It is a fun film. I was confident. But I did not expect that it would get so much love. It was a brilliant decision to release it simultaneously on OTT and theatres. People across the world can watch it and appreciate it,” said Anjan.

Chaalchitra Ekhon is produced by Anjan and his son, Neel Dutt. Earlier, in an interview, Anjan said that he would like to produce the film simply because he would not want any interference. “I am glad that I produced it. There was no one to stop me from casting Sawon as Ranjan. He is a fresh graduate straight off campus. I feel campus is the place where people tend to experiment and explore. That is the place where creativity blooms. Also, since there was no producer, there was no one to tell me how many songs to keep and what not to keep,” he said.

Anjan Dutt debuted as an actor in Mrinal Sen’s Chaalchitra. In his film, Anjan chronicles the making of the film and captures the moment he got introduced to the world of Sen.

Meanwhile, Anjan recently schooled his audience at a music event. He told the audience who were busy taking photos and videos, “Taking selfies or photos is not done in any live concert. I travelled all over the world. It is practiced nowhere, except in India, except in Kolkata. In other places, if an artist comes to sing, others listen with attention and keep it in their minds. You put a video on Facebook. Why? To show your friend? You bought the tickets with a lot of money. They did not buy it. Stop taking photos. Keep it in your mind.”
