The General Election is going on in full swing and Hoichoi’s political drama Abar Rajneeti is all set to drop on May 24. The first season of Rajneeti which features Ditipriya Roy, Kaushik Ganguly, Koneenica Banerjee, Shyamal Chakraborty, Arjun Chakrabarty, and others was released last year and created a buzz. Directed by Sourav Chakraborty, the new season promises a lot of tiff and tussle within the family of the late Rathin Banerjee.

Ditipriya, who plays Rashi Banerjee – daughter of Rijpur’s politician Rathin in Abar Rajneeti, talks to OTTplay about her character in the second season, her opinion on the ongoing election, and her love life.

In the trailer, Rashi is seen as a married person. Talking about her character Ditipriya explains, “The new season takes place a few months after the point where the first season ends. Rashi got married to her fiance Sounak (Arjun Chakrabarty). She now knows how Mallika (Rashi’s stepmother, played by Koneenica) has betrayed her family. However, she cannot prove it to the public. Rashi has never been greedy for power. However, she learns that her father’s look-alike has surfaced and she gets back to her business.”

What does Ditipriya think about real-life politics? “I am that person who does not voice their opinion and seems like an apolitical person. However, I believe no one is apolitical. I keep track of current affairs. I believe in certain ideologies. I have a feeling of right and wrong. I vote. I believe that’s the power I have in our democracy,” she says.

If, like her character Rashi, she gets to fight an election and wins it, what will she promise to her people? “I will have to live, talk and understand my people. But I have no interest in politics and I will never join any party. However, I feel our politicians should take care of our health system. If we go to any government hospital we will see that our healthcare is still not accessible to all. Same with our education system. Our politicians should make health and education free of corruption and accessible to all,” she says.
