Filmmaker Shankar Guru is bracing himself for a tricky challenge ahead. Despite having delivered a big hit with his debut 'Badava Rascal', Shankar refuses to let his guard down for his second outing proves to be as tough, if not tougher. He would be soon directing young actor Dheeren Ramkumar in a film backed by 'James' producer Kishore Pathikonda, and although the project seems quite non-threatening for the unversed, Shankar Guru reckons the pressure is inevitable for him.

"The fact that you are going to be directing a member of the Dr. Rajkumar family is quite a big deal for me. I am currently working on the script but the focus is strong, as though this was my debut because there is a lot to prove. The scale is bigger and when you are entrusted with the task of delivering a bonafide entertainer, there are going to be nerves for sure. But having said so, I take it all in my stride because the process is fun and enriching for me," shares Shankar Guru in an exclusive chat.

The upcoming untitled film will be a thorough family entertainer that is likely to bear a few similarities with Badava Rascal but Shankar adds that his vision is quite distinct compared to the maiden attempt. While Badava Rascal (produced by his close friend Daali Dhananjaya) had the "breakup" angle running in the background, the upcoming film will explore the love angle to greater effect. It was only after he met Dheeren Ramkumar in person, he says, that he felt assured that he could create a family entertainer with all the driving commercial elements.

"I must give a lot of the credit to Chethan Kumar sir (director of 'James') who looked out for me as his own. We got along really well when he came on board to pen the lyrics of the Badava Rascal title track and it was him who voluntarily introduced me to Kishore Pathikonda sir. He would say that although there are so many filmmakers around, he had grown to admire me the most for some reason and sought better opportunities for me. And that's the upcoming film materialized - Kishore sir too has been super supportive of my process and although we had to announce the project on Dheeren's birthday, he has put no pressure on me whatsoever. I have been given more than sufficient time to work on the script and then go on the floors," adds Shankar.
