Satyanshu Singh is a national award-winning director, who is known for making films like 14 Phere and Chintu ka Birthday. The filmmaker's latest release Jehanabad - Of Love & War is the talk of the tinsel town.
The SonyLIV Original series is co-directed by Rajeev Barnwal and stars Ritwik Bhowmik, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Harshita Gaur and Rajat Kapoor in pivotal roles among other actors. The show talks about certain social norms such as casteism, class and more. In a recent chat with OTTplay, Satyanshu shared his thoughts on the same.
Talking about the ill practices that take place in society, the filmmaker mentioned, " This question deserves a more elaborate and well-researched answer, I don't know if I'm qualified to answer this question. But I think that that it is the insecurity within people, mostly when the private property became a thing, man realize that private property is something which needs to be owned and protected. And due to the scarcity of resources, people started fighting over resources. And that is where I believe that is the origin of all ill practices."
"So it is literally 1000s of years ago. But to be honest, I think, because of our vulnerabilities, and because of our limitations, we are always capable of terrible deeds, as we are capable of some unspeakable horrors, as well as some beautiful greatness within us. So I believe that we always had that within us to do all of this to divide society on the basis of caste and religion, and to spread hate crime. I think all of us had that within ourselves. But I must maintain that I'm not qualified enough to answer this question," he added.
Jehanabad - Of Love & War is available to stream online on Sony LIV.
