Exclusive! Parambrata Chatterjee: Habji Gabji deals with a very important issue that we all should be concerned about

Raj Chakrabarty’s Habji Gabji that features Parambrata Chatterjee and Subhashree Ganguly will be released on June 3. The film deals with gaming disorders and other pitfalls of mobile addiction. In an exclusive chat with OTTPlay, actor-director, who recently garnered appreciation for OTT projects like Aranyak (Netflix) and Mithua (ZEE5), talks about the film, directing Subhashree in his next and his Bollywood works.

Your upcoming film Habji Gabji deals with a very concerning issue — the effect of the engagement and disengagement with one’s mobile phone. Tell us how do you see this issue — as trouble or as necessity?

Habji Gabji deals with a very important issue, which is something that we need to tell ourselves and to our children. While we should enjoy the progress of science and technology, we should also be very aware of where it is taking us. We need to think if it is completely destroying all our interpersonal communication. I am looking forward to seeing how people receive the film. I think It is an important film.

You worked with Subhashree in this film and now you directed her in Boudi Canteen recently…

Shooting has been very fine. I had a very lovely experience, especially that I directed Subhashree for the first time. Boudi canteen is a small-little film. I got the seed from Aritra (Sen, director-producer). It is a very simple film. There is no frill in it. There is nothing fancy about it. But it is a very identifiable film. That simplicity will do the trick.

You have been running to-and-fro Mumbai with a number of national projects, while you are busy in the Bengali industry too. What are the differences you have noticed between these two work environments?

In Bollywood, they are catering to a wider audience and there is more at stake. I think they care more about their work. Also, A lot of young people work there. One area of difference in Kolkata is that there is a sense of limitations in terms of the market size. That sometimes brings a sense of lethargy and lack of care. I think we need a little more young people in the Bengali film industry. Even if they make any mistake, I believe that will come from passion. They will be way more updated about what is happening around the world. That’s important. The energy, knowledge and passion that youngsters have is important to incorporate in the Bengali film industry.
