Exclusive! Sara Ali Khan clears the air on her pairing with Akshay Kumar in Atrangi Re, and the age gap between them

When Atrangi Re was announced and first look photos were dropped featuring Akshay Kumar, Dhanush, and Sara Ali Khan, people were left confused. Soon after the trailer, many couldn't stop giving their opinion about the 28-year age gap between Akshay and Sara. Now that the film is out, several people's doubts have been cleared, and Sara spoke exclusively to OTTplay about it.

Major spoilers ahead: Akshay plays Sara's onscreen father in the film and is also her figment of imagination.

Talking about their unusual pairing, the actor told us that when the trailer was released, not only the audience or the media, but also a few of her friends, asked her, "Listen, isn't he so much older than you?" to which she asked them to watch the movie first. 

Sara shared that even if her loved ones said it, it's not because they wanted to bring the makers down here. Calling their pairing an "atrangi match," the actor further shared that people were perplexed because she was paired opposite Akshay. 

Sara went on to say, "But that was when we realized that we were on the right track. Even so, I realized that the more people find this trio of Atrangi Re, the more they will find them fine after the release. Even in fun, people kept saying, "He is your father's age. Now you know, right, that he is the father only."

However, Sara also plays Akshay's on-screen wife in the film during the flashback sequences. 

Atrangi Re was released on Disney+ Hotstar on December 24, 2021. The film, directed by Aanand L. Rai, is penned by Himanshu Sharma. 

It's Sara's fifth film since her debut with Kedarnath in 2018. The actor was earlier seen in Simmba, Love Aaj Kal, and Coolie No. 1. Moreover, Atrangi Re is her second OTT release too.
