After a hiatus, Debashree Roy is back in business and how. After her acclaimed OTT debut in Chemistry Mashi, the actress is now all set with her Puja release, Shastri. She pairs up with Mithun Chakraborty in this drama directed by Pathikrit Basu. In a chat with OTTplay, the actress talked about her experience of getting back on screen with Mithun Chakraborty and her view on the ongoing civic protest to demand justice for the rape and murder incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. In an interview with OTTplay, Mithun said that Kolkata is not in a festive mood due to the RG Kar incident. He further said that he was a little wary of the release of Shastri. Expressing her views, Debashree said, “I agree with what Mithunda has said. People are a little disturbed. That has resulted in a sense of scepticism. It is a different Kolkata now,” and she added, “I am enjoying that people have stepped out and made a space of dissent.”
Talking about her political affiliation with the ruling party of Bengal, Debashree said, “Look, I am an artiste. I was invited to join a party. There, I felt that I am more of an actress than I am a politician. I identify more as an artiste.”
Debashree and Mithun will be seen opposite each other after a long break. Talking about her experience, the actress said, “Earlier, we used to get a lot of time to shoot. These days, there is a rush. In the old days, we used to be calm during the shoots. There was an outdoor schedule and an indoor schedule. Now everything goes on like madness. And this is true from web series and films. I just worked on a web series, Chemistry Mashi. Serials are worse. However, what did not change is the Chemistry between us.”
Talking about working with Mithun Chakraborty, Debashree said, “As a matter of fact, we are family friends. Mithunda knows everybody in my family and I know all his family members. My father used to love Mithunda.”
Mithun, in his interview, quipped that Debashree yells at him and uses swear words. He joked, “All those old swear words get out of the bag and the amount of swearing she does. You will have to hear her to believe her ability to swear.” To this, the actress replied, “As a matter of fact, I don’t usually swear. But he pushes you that far so much so that you get exasperated and you end up swearing. He always teases while shooting. His pranks are fun and annoying. And we all enjoy it. If Mithunda is there at the shooting, we don’t have to worry about the fun part of the shooting.”
Shastri is about a common man getting the power to see the future. “I believe in astrology. Not every astrologer is genuine though,” the actress said.
Debashree debuted on OTT with Saurav Chakrabarty’s Chemistry Mashi. Now she has worked with another young director, Pathikrit. Talking about working with young directors, Debashree said, “I always work with new directors. Was Rituparno Ghosh a known and old director? He was a fresh new character. Shastri is a different film. I enjoyed working with Pathikrit. Sourav was also very talented. So is Pathikrit.”
