Both Sooraj Barjatya and Salman Khan went through a series of rejections and struggle before the year 1989 when they put out their first film Maine Pyar Kiya as director and actor respectively. For the next 10 years, from 1989 to 1999, actor Salman Khan and director Sooraj Barjatya delivered some of the most successful commercial potboilers like Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Hum Saath-Saath Hain - to the Hindi film industry.
While their friendship goes beyond their professional lives, Sooraj had cast Salman Khan in most of his directorials so far, four out of seven to be precise.
As soon as the announcement came that the actor-director duo is coming back with a new project, fans got excited and are eager to know more about it.
In conversation with OTTplay, Sooraj shared more updates on his film with Salman.
Sooraj told OTTplay, " Yes I am doing my next film with Salman Khan and I have developed the story idea. But now I will take some time to write the entire story and we are in that process. I understand that Salman's fans are quite excited about it, so am I. But I cannot talk more than this about the next project."
Recalling the reaction of the superstar when he shared the story of his latest film Uunchai, in which he did not cast Salman, Sooraj said, " Pehle to Salman bhai khub haase...bole 'Kahan Himalaya jayoge Sooraj, you never liked stepping out of your film set, temple, ghar ka angan...this story required so much outdoor!' He was right because it is out of my comfort zone."
"However, he had shown his interest in working in the film because we are more than friends, we are family. But my way of explaining to him as I want to cast actors with no image. Salman has a larger-than-life image; you cannot really remove that superstardom of Salman Khan! On the other hand, be it Anupam ji, Boman bhai or Bachchan sir...I can mould them to anything!" added the filmmaker.
The film Uunchai, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, is now running in theatres.
