Sujoy Ghosh is one of the notable filmmakers in the Indian film industry. With his latest offering Blind, the producer offers a crime-thriller story revolving around a blind woman, a former police officer, who is out there to nab a serial killer on lose.
In a recent conversation with OTTplay, Ghosh shared his idea behind the latest remake and how he admired his actors in Blind.
Talking about how he decided to adapt Choi Min-Seok's film, the talented filmmaker mentioned, "Honestly, the premise was very exciting. "A person who is not able to see is actually the witness in a crime." How is that possible? The plotline only made me intrigued and greedy to make this film. And that's when I speak to my colleague Thomas, I asked him to give me a premise, however, I was still not able to crack the whole script for the Indian audience. That's when I connected to writer Shome Makhija. He worked really hard on the script and that's how we started making the film."
Due to Purab Kohli's versatility, he just seemed apt in the character of a psycho killer. When asked how he roped Sonam Kapoor as the protagonist, Ghosh shared, "When Shome was building the script, a woman with a certain height and physicality was in her mind. And actually, the pre-production started quite early, even before the pandemic. And that time Sonam was quite active and actually she fit into that chracter quite well."
When asked why he opted for an OTT release and not a theatrical one, the filmmaker informed us how Covid affected a lot on his projects. As earlier, Blind was supposed to be a cinema release, but post-pandemic all the filmmakers of Blind took a call to have a digital release.
Talking about other actors in the movie, Ghosh shared that all of them have something crucial to showcase with their chracter. He further added that among all, he is in awe of Vinay Pathak and Shubham Saraf for their immense talent. "Vinay is a delight, he brings so much into his character, while Shubham is such a good actor, I witnessed his craft the first time in The Suitable Boy series," he added.
Blind is currently available to stream on Jio Cinema.
