Ghar Waapsi is a new family-entertainer series that talks about family dynamics and explores different angles of relationships between siblings and parents. Directed by Ruchir Arun, the show features Vishal Vashishtha in a pivotal role alongside Atul Srivastava and others.
In a candid chat with OTTplay, the filmmaker and the two actors shared their experience of working in the show and their views on OTT and more. Excerpts:
Ruchir started off by explaining the part of the show that came from his experience. The filmmaker said, "I have lived this life. My family is exactly like the family in the show. Everyone is different from each other and their opinion also differs from one another. But there is a 'love glue' that binds them together. I just wanted to put my real experience in Ghar Waapsi."
Speaking about his character Shekhar, Vishal, who plays a corporate guy, revealed that in reality, he has been in his shoes. He further mentioned that whatever is happening with his character's life in the show has actually happened in his real life as well and just before receiving the script for Ghar Waapsi. "This is what made me connect to my part and made it easier to play him as well," he added.
Atul Srivastava's chemistry with his onscreen wife Vibha Chhibber in Ghar Waapsi has been appreciated by a lot of audiences and a few have also called him an ideal husband in the show. Talking about the same, the experienced actor said, "I think it is being appreciated this much because he does not judge people around him, be it his family members or friends and also understands his wife and her expressions and behaviour according to the situation."
Commenting on Ghar Waapsi's comparison with the Jameel Khan-Geetanjali Kulkarni starrer Gullak, Ruchir said that it is a good comparison to have, although he also informed that he hasn't watched the TVF show yet.
When asked which medium between television and OTT he prefers, Vishal said that he has to give due credit to his television career because everything has started from there.
He further explained that though both the mediums are great, he misses the prep for character and scene in television, while on OTT he gets his time for the preparations, which connects him to his role even more closely.
Speaking about the same, Atul shared that he agrees with Vishal. He further added, "I have done multiple shows on TV and have worked during old times as well when the show used to release new episodes on weekly basis and due to that it used to give us a long time to prepare for the scene and role and that's why they were so good and well executed, while when the daily soap culture came into being, everyone started working hurridly which somewhere got compromised with the quality of the project."
"Now I am referring to series to work in as it's a lot of fun to work in one," he added.
When asked if OTT provides freedom to showcase creativity, Atul went first and said yes it does. While Ruchir and Vishal agreed to him as well.
