British actor Jason Shah who was seen in Hindi projects like Partner and Heeramandi, will be playing a supporting role in the upcoming Tamil film Jana Nayagan. In the Vijay-starrer film, Jason will be playing the right hand to Bobby Deol’s character, the antagonist of the film. Ahead of the film’s release, Jason spoke to OTTplay.
Jason Shah will be making his Tamil debut with Jana Nayagan, though he had appeared briefly in Tamil film 1947 August backed by AR Murugadoss. “I’m really happy to be a part of Jana Nayagan, where I play Bobby Deol’s henchman,” Jason mentions.
Speaking about working with director H Vinoth in Jana Nayagan, he adds, “Working in this film was an incredible experience. Director H Vinoth’s vision and execution were top-notch, and the entire set felt very immersive. I’m grateful to have been treated with such respect and professionalism by the Tamil industry. Everyone is genuinely warm and talented, which makes every experience wonderful.”
Though Jason does not have any scenes with Vijay, the actor states that being on the same set as him was an experience by itself. Adding to this, Jason also mentions, “You can feel his presence even when he’s not around, the respect that he commands is incredible. The whole industry looks up to him, and it’s truly inspiring to see. Being part of that environment was a privilege.”
Interestingly, Jason was offered another role in this film earlier, but for some reason he couldn’t do it. Believing it to be the God’s work, he got another opportunity with a different role and Jason did not think twice before saying yes. “As we all know, it wouldn’t be possible for me as an actor to be part of another project with Vijay sir since he is retiring,” he adds.
But was there a language barrier? “I’ve always had a soft spot for Tamil Nadu, having spent time in Kodaikanal earlier, so the language wasn’t a major barrier. If I get my dialogues in advance, I’m good to go,” he answers.
Talking about his future projects this year, Jason will be beginning the year with Jana Nayagan, as he currently wrapping up with two Telugu projects, Passion and Nagabadham. He adds, “I’m also very excited to be teaming up with Vijay Deverakonda in VD14. It’s going to be a blast. Working with Nikhil Advani on Amazon’s Revolutionaries has been a dream, and sharing screen space with actors like Bhuvan Bam, Pratibha Ranta, and Rohit Saraf has been incredibly rewarding.”

Jason calls working on Jana Nayagan has been a game-changer given the film was a ‘masterclass in filmmaking’. The actor says, “The director and production team’s dedication allows actors to completely immerse themselves in their characters. For me, acting is about being a tool in the director’s hands, listening, adapting, and giving it your all. I feel many actors struggle because they don’t listen enough. My approach is simple: give 150%, and you’ll always receive more. In my experience, that dedication has often led to my roles being extended and that’s my biggest takeaway. My acting coach at the New York Film Academy once told me, “Be ready to be in control of being out of control.” That perfectly describes Jana Nayagan for me.”
