Karan Kundrra's latest film Tera Kya Hoga Lovely deals with an important and sensitive subject. The premise of the film is about how a girl faces hurdles in finding a groom for herself because of her dark skin tone. It sheds light on how some people are fascinated with fair skin. During the promotions of Tera Kya Hoga Lovely, when OTTplay sat down for an exclusive conversation with Karan, we asked the actor about his thoughts on people's obsession with fair skin tone.
In an exclusive interview with us, Karan Kundrra admitted that the aforementioned subject is sensitive. The actor said, "I believe it has been imposed on us by the colonists. If you read our historical texts, a lot of big things have been mentioned in them about stars, the moon, logic and more... but rang (colour) ke baare mein baat nahi ki gayi hain. We were happy with the colour that we had."
Karan further mentioned, "When Britishers and other people came, they brought this concept because they wanted to subdue the sub-continent. Now it (mindset) is changing and this (Indian) colour of the skin is becoming more relevant." The actor added that he has been travelling overseas since 2003 and people abroad find Indians 'exotic'.
However, the actor does believe, "But yes, there is a certain section of society (who is obsessed with fair skin tone). Kisi ki capability ya kisi ki insaaniyat ko uss basis pe judge nahi karni chahiye."
In Balwinder Singh Janjua's film, Karan Kundrra plays the role of Guggu. The actor told OTTplay that the filmmaker didn't force him to come on board for the movie. As per Kundrra, Balwinder told the actor to take up the film only if he found the storyline good.
