All hell seems to have broken loose as Twitter started removing the blue tick – a mark of account verifications – from the user’s profile. As a result, thousands of politicians, film personalities, journalists, sports people, etc, lost verification ticks from their handles on the microblogging site.

Along with many others, actor Parambrata Chatterjee also lost the verification badge from his Twitter account. He refused to pay Twitter to keep his account verified. The micro-blogging site wants individuals to pay $8 (approximately Rs 655) a month for web and $1,000 (a little more than Rs 82K) a month for organisations and an additional $50 (around Rs 4K) monthly for each affiliate or employee account. Parambrata said, “I am not going to pay a penny and I have absolutely nothing to worry about. I don’t need Elon Musk’s verification to live my life. What extra does a blue tic give us in life? Absolutely nothing.”

Talking about social media, he said, “There was a time when I was regular on Twitter. Then I realised it is detrimental to my mental health. I barely use Twitter or Facebook now. I am on Instagram and use it a little more regularly. I handle my social media.”

Several global and national film personalities like Shah Rukh Khan, Halle Berry, Idris Alba, and others, lost the blue tick on Twitter. Some accounts still have the blue tick and Twitter sent them a message saying their account is verified because they subscribed to Twitter Blue.

Parambrata will soon be seen as Feluda in Arindam Sil’s Shabash Feluda on Zee5. The show that is based on Satyajit Ray’s Gangtoke Gondogol will be dropped on May 5 and has Rwitobroto Mukherjee as Topshe. Rudranil Ghosh and Ritwick Chakraborty are also part of the show.
