Although Karan Johar's The Traitors started with an average response from the viewers, the show gained a lot of attention in no time. It has engaging drama, arguments, betrayals, the traitors vs innocents game, and eliminations. In the second week, we saw four contestants eliminated, and one of them was Raftaar. In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Raftaar shared his reaction to his exit from the show, arguments between him and Sufi, and more.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Raftaar was asked about his argument with Sufi Motiwala at the Circle of Shaq in The Traitors. He said, "Regarding Sufi and the Circle of Shaq moment, it was never personal. I think everyone’s playing their game, and in moments like that, emotions and strategy get tangled."
For the unversed, Raftaar and Sufi had a big argument during the Circle of Shaq, where each contestant votes for a person who they think is the traitor. At this moment, when the argument went too far, Raftaar said to Sufi, "I think you should call me a sidekick bro," to which Sufi said, "I don't wanna call you anything."
Following this, Raftaar said, "I wanna call you a sidekick." Sufi said, "Shut up. I am not your f*cking sidekick and you will not say any f*cking thing to me. Disrespectful b*tch."
Reacting to his elimination, Raftaar told us, "I didn’t expect to leave the show that early, to be honest. I came with a mindset of staying till the end. But that’s the nature of the format; perception plays a huge role, and sometimes people don’t get the full picture. Still, I’m grateful that even in a short span, I was able to leave an impression. Sometimes, impact matters more than duration."
Raftaar is an Indian rapper, lyricist, music producer, composer, dancer, actor and TV personality associated with Hindi, Punjabi and Haryanvi music. He was one of the first rappers from India to enter the mainstream music scene. When asked whether his celebrity image as a rapper worked for or against him in The Traitor, Raftaar said, "Being a rapper definitely brought some unique energy to the table. It made people curious and maybe even cautious."
When asked who he thinks is playing the smartest game in Karan Johar's show, the rapper told us, "The traitors are navigating the game with a lot of clarity and calm. That kind of subtle intelligence, where you don’t need to be loud to be effective, I respect that deeply."
During the conversation, Raftaar also said that he felt Purav Jha was the traitor and added, "I felt Purav was the traitor because every time he came to me, the cameras followed. I had already thought of dark circles and whatnot. So, I did not want to spin another theory, and it would have put Purav's name in everyone's mind. He reminds me of me when I was starting out. I understand the need to shine."
Raftaar said, "If there were a diss track for the Traitors universe, I’d probably write it for the situation itself, not a person. The whole atmosphere, the tension, the doubts, the changing dynamics, it’s poetic in its own way. Not every song needs a target, sometimes it’s just about processing what you lived."
Meanwhile, new episodes of The Traitors will be released on Amazon Prime Video each Thursday. You can watch these new episodes from 8 p.m.
